アンコール地域から約15km地点にあるこの遺跡群は、８世紀末から９世紀にかけて栄えていた王都ハリハラーラヤである。
クーレン山で独立を宣言したジャヤバルマン2世が場所を決定し、インドラバルマン1世が都を拡大したとされるが、ロレイ建造後に治水問題で現在のアンコール地方へと遷都した。
