ハリハラーラヤ王都の中心寺院で、アンコール時代初のピラミッド型寺院。
大きさは東西900m、南北700m程あり、参道には天界と地上を結ぶ巨大な蛇ナーガが両脇に並ぶ。
三重の周壁に囲まれた五階層の寺院の南壁には「戦いに臨む阿修羅」のレリーフが残っており、当時は階層を囲むように壁画が彫られていたと考えられる。
建設当時、中央祠堂はレンガ造りであったが、12世紀に入り、砂岩で造り直された。
