｢聖なる剣｣という意。
ジャヤバルマン7世がチャム王に勝った地に建造し、父の菩提寺として祀ったとされる。
敷地外周は東西約800m、南北約700ｍ。四方にはアンコールトム同様、乳海攪拌の欄干が残り、外側周壁には50m毎に大きなガルーダ像が立ち並ぶ。
東参道からは左手にはガジュマルが寺院に聳え立ち、右手に入ると珍しい円柱造りのニ階建て建造物が残る。
